Brandy (You’re A Fine Girl) Cover — Originally by Looking GLass

I had a lot of fun with this one. Brandy was one of my favorite songs from way back. Here’s my version.

Brandy (You’re A Fine Girl) is a song about a waitress (barmaid) who’s in love with a sailor. The sailor is a bit of a free spirit and tells her that “no harbor is his home.” In other words, he’s not going to settle down with her. She’s in love with him, thus the sad theme of the song.

Brandy was by a band called Looking Glass. Brandy went to #1 in 1972. They had one other hit (Jimmy Loves Mary-Anne) that went to #33 in ’73. Some of the members went on to form Starz, whom I saw in the Kingdome, opening up for Aerosmith. Jeff Beck and Jan Hammer were also on the bill. That is, if my memory serves me correctly 🙂

I remember listening to Brandy, when I was visiting my Grandma’s house in North Carolina in the early ’70s. For years, this song was a guilty pleasure of mine — I’m not guilty anymore, but it’s still a pleasure!
